Home Out There
SWS Creatives was commissioned to design a distinctive one-bedroom apartment in New York City for a client who is both a passionate wildlife enthusiast and an avid diver. Working within the constraints of a rental unit, our approach focused on layering furniture and styling elements that evoke natural, tactile textures and earthy tones—drawing inspiration from the client’s safari adventures in Africa and diving experiences in Egypt.
The open-plan living space is thoughtfully divided into two zones: a dining area designed to host everything from intimate dinners to lively gatherings, and a lounge area oriented toward expansive views of the Hudson River. Built-in shelves are styled with the client’s personal collections, curated lifestyle books, one-of-a-kind artworks sourced from local studios, and a mix of vibrant greenery to bring the space to life.
Our scope also included outfitting the kitchen and functional areas with carefully selected essentials. Tableware and silverware in an ocean-inspired palette create a warm, inviting atmosphere—a soothing retreat for the client after a diving expedition.
In the bedroom, a custom mural hand-painted by our team draws its color palette directly from a photograph taken during the client’s African travels. The surrounding textiles and bedding echo this theme, resulting in a space that is both serene and expressive.
This apartment is not only a personal sanctuary—it’s a soulful reflection of a life lived in wonder and exploration.
